The Amazon rainforest has been under a lot of pressure recently. Last year was a particularly bad year for the Amazon rainforest. Last year, the Amazon rainforest suffered severe forest fires. The Amazon rainforest fires lasted for a few months last year, they lasted from January 2019 until October 2019. The fires grabbed the world's attention in July 2019 when the fires got worse, however, August and September 2019 resulted in significantly worse fires.
August 2019 was also the worst August for deforestation ever.
The Report On The Amazon Rainforest
The new report on the future of the Amazon rainforest was published in 'nature communications'. The report found that once the Amazon rainforest reaches its tipping point, the Amazon rainforest is likely to collapse within a few decades of it reaching its tipping point.
The researchers found that larger ecosystems were more vulnerable to collapse if such ecosystems were degraded. Ecosystems listed in this research that scientists believe are vulnerable to collapsing are ecosystems such as Caribbean coral reefs and the Amazon rainforest.
The Amazon Rainforest Vulnerable To Collapsing
This is not the first time lately that scientists have warned that the Amazon rainforest is close to collapsing. In October 2019, it was reported that the Amazon rainforest was close to its tipping point. A tipping point that would be irreversible and eventually kill the forest. It was then reported in December 2019 that the Amazon rainforest had reached its tipping point.
If the Amazon rainforest has reached its tipping point, or, if it does reach its tipping point, then the Amazon rainforest as we know it today won't exist in the near future. The Amazon rainforest reaching its tipping point would mean that the Amazon rainforest will die off over the next few decades and then it will become a savanna, rather than the luscious rainforest it is today.
When Will The Amazon Rainforest Collapse?
This new report published has scientists believing that the Amazon rainforest could collapse within just 50 years. Therefore, the Amazon rainforest could be gone by 2070.
