Drills are a unique animal who are native to Africa and related to Baboons.


Their relation to Baboons can be seen in the Drills physical features; Drills look very similar to Baboons and could be easily mistaken for Baboons upon looking at them.


Where Are Drills Found?


Drills are only found in Africa. They are not found everywhere within Africa though, they are only found within some countries in Africa.


These countries are Cameroon, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.


What Ecosystems Do Drills Live Within?


Drills live in several different habitats in the wild.


The habitats that these animals live in are forests, mountain peaks, inland cliffs and savannas.




What Is The Conservation Status Of Drills?


Drills are one of Africas most endangered animals.


Their conservation status today is endangered. Therefore, they are an endangered species.


What Is Their Population Trend?


The population trend of a wild animal is whether or not the population of the species is increasing, staying the same or decreasing. Sadly, Drills are decreasing.


There are not very many Drills left in the world and wild today. It is estimated that there are only 4,000 individual mature Drills in the wild today.


Drills Are Social Animals


Drills are social animals, they are animals that live in groups with other male and female Drills. The groups that Drills are part of groups that can have up to 30 Drills within them.


What Do Drills Eat?


Drills are omnivores: they eat both plants and other animals.


Drills eat a wide variety of foods. The plant species that they eat include things like fruits, leaves and also nuts. The other animals that they eat include insects and other invertebrates.


What Is The Breeding Like For Drills?


Female Drills when pregnant will remain pregnant for around 5 and a half months. Unlike many animals who give birth to more than one offspring, Drills are different and more similar to humans when they are pregnant and give birth, as Drills usually only give birth to one baby.


Though, on occasions, Drills can give birth to more than one offspring.



What Is The Personality Of Drill Monkeys?


Drill Monkeys are social animals, but these cute Monkeys are also shy animals.


They can also be friendly animals. They have what is known as an ''appeasement grin'' which is a smile used by Drill Monkeys to show that they want peace.


What Is The Difference Between The Males And Females?


There are biological and physical differences between male and female Drill Monkeys.


Male Drills are larger than females. They also have different colours on them; red, lilac, purple and blue. Females are only a third of the size of the males and the females are less colourful than the males - female Drills are a brown colour, which means that they are easy to distinguish from males.

There are two subspecies of Drills in the world. One of the subspecies of Drills is known as the Bioko Drill - the Biko Drill is an endangered animal. The second subspecies of Drill is the Mainland Drill - the Mainland Drill is also an endangered animal.
