It was the hottest month on record last month.
January 2020 is now the warmest January ever recorded on record. Particularly in the Northern hemisphere, which seen unseasonably mild and warm temperatures last month. For example, on the 2nd of January this year, it was reported that Norway had its highest temperature ever recorded for January, as temperatures increased to an unseasonably high of 19C.
Temperatures globally were 0.03C above average this January. While temperatures in Europe were particularly higher than average last month, as temperatures in Europe were 3.1C above average across Europe.
This follows on from temperature records being broken all last year. For example, last December in the Scottish Highlands, the highest ever temperature recorded in Britain for December, where on the 28th of December 2019, Achfary in the Scottish Highlands recorded a record high of 18.7C. And earlier in the Summer last year nearly, 400 record temperatures were recorded in the Northern hemisphere throughout the Summer.
