How To Help The Woodland Trust Fight The Climate Emergency! 🌳

The Woodland Trust is looking for people to help fight the climate emergency

The Woodland Trust has came up with its own plan to help tackle the climate emergency. They have came up with an 'Emergency Tree Plan For The UK' which is something that you can read from the Woodland Trust's own website. The Emergency Tree Plan For The UK outlines several recommendations for governments in the UK to help them tackle the climate emergency. One of the recommendations that the Woodland Trust has outlined for governments is the recommendation of looking after the trees we have in the UK.

Why Is It Important That We Save Trees?

It is important that we save trees here in the UK because we are one of the most forest-depleted countries in Europe. The UK is the second most forest-depleted country in Europe, it is estimated that only 13% of the UK is covered in woodland and forest today. The UK is also one of the most nature depleted countries in the world today. Therefore, we need to preserve forests and woodlands here in the UK to preserve our wildlife.

Preserving forests and woodlands is vital for protecting wild animals, especially wild animals that are endangered: such as Scottish Wildcats and Red Squirrels. Saving the habitat of these endangered animals is essential if we are to save them from extinction now and in the future.

There is also another good reason to save our woodlands and forests: trees are a good way to stop climate change. Preserving our existing woodlands and forests, alongside planting more trees, is a good way to stop climate change. Trees are helpful in tackling climate change because they absorb carbon out of the air: carbon emissions are largely causing climate change.

Deforestation is another cause of climate change. Deforestation causes climate change because when trees are chopped down they release carbon that has been stored within the trees. It also is damaging because deforestation is one of the causes of the Sixth Mass Extinction, which is resulting in many species of wild animals and plants becoming extinct or endangered. Essentially, deforestation is a major cause of the ongoing biodiversity crisis, which is linked to the Sixth Mass Extinction.
