February Is Bird-Feeding Month! 🕊️

February is National Bird Feeding Month!

National Bird Feeding Month began all the way back in 1994. It was started by a US congressman known as John Porter. He began National Bird Feeding Month in February because February was and is ''one of the most difficult months in the United States for birds''.

February can also be a difficult month for birds in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere as it's Winter. Such as in the UK, where in February birds find it harder to find food because insects are scarce in Winter and the ground is often frozen solid which makes it hard for birds to unearth food to survive.

Therefore, as birds find it hard to find food during the Winter months, it becomes more difficult for them to survive during the Winter months.

But, it doesn't have to be difficult for birds during the Winter - you can help them survive the Winter months by providing them with food. Providing food for birds this Winter will depend upon where you are and what bird species come into your garden. Some good foods to feed birds in the Winter in the UK are foods like fat balls, seeds and fruit.

By providing food like fruit, seeds and fat balls, in your garden for birds, you will be helping the birds survive the Winter, and it's a good way to take part in National Bird-Feeding month this year.

Happy Bird-Feeding Month! 🕊️
