The UK government has announced that it is to introduce a new animal welfare bill. The new animal welfare bill is called the ''Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill'', which is set to be put before parliament to be voted on.
The new bill will be put before the House of Commons and the House of Lords, if it passes, the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill will become law.
If this becomes law, then animal abusers could face up to five years in prison if they are found abusing animals. This would increase the current amount of time that people spend time in prison for abusing animals from six months, increasing that time in prison to five years.
The UK government said about the bill:
''This would be one of the toughest sanctions for animal abuse in Europe, strengthening the UKâs position as a global leader on animal welfare.''
The law is set to protect both pets and farm animals.
