The Montio del Monte is a small animal native to South America.

These cute animals are a member of the animal family known as the Microbiotheriidae family. The Microbiotheriidae family is a group of mammals; the Montio del Monte is the only surviving animal species of the Microbiotheriidae left today, the other species that once belonged to this family are now extinct. Other members of this family were found in places like Australia. Today these cute animals are the last of their kind.

Sadly, Montio's aren't fairing well today either, as they are classed as being vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN.

What Is The Population Of The Montio del Monte?

The population of the Montio del Monte is unknown. However, it is thought that their population is decreasing today.

What Is Their Conservation Status?

The conservation status of these cute animals is 'vunerable'. When an animal is classed as vulnerable it means that they are one step away from becoming an endangered species. Therefore, these adorable animals are at risk of becoming an endangered species in the future, especially because of the threat that they face.

What Threats Are There To Montio's?

The biggst threat to the existence of Montio's is habitat destruction: deforestation is the biggest threat to their existence today. Deforestation happens in their habitat due to people deforesting for logging, or deforesting to clear the land to make way for it to be used for agriculture.

What Is The Habitat Of Montio's?

Montio's are only found within forests in Chile and Argentina.

What Do These Animals Eat In The Wild?

These adorable mouse-like little animals mostly eat insects in the wild, they also will eat things such as fruit while in the wild.
