All Tiger Species And Their Conservation Status 🐯

Tiger

Tigers are one of the most iconic wild animals in the world. They are also one of the most endangered animals in the world today.

There isn't just one species of Tiger, there are also several subspecies of Tiger. These different subspecies of Tigers can be found across Asia.

The good news for Tigers over recent years is that they have been increasing in India: the Indian population of Tigers increased in 2018. However, even though Tigers have increased in India, they are still endangered.

The Indian Tiger population, as of 2018, is said to be 2,967 Tigers. The population for all Tigers and all Tiger subspecies isn't much higher though, in total, the Tiger population is a maximum of 3,159 to 3,900 in the wild.

There are several subspecies of Tigers left in the wild today:

. There is the Sunda Tiger. The Sunda Tiger is critically endangered, there are now less that 400 of these beautiful animals left in the wild.

. There is the Continental Tiger. The Continental Tiger is endangered, there are now around 3,500 Continental Tigers living in the wild today.

Continental Tigers are mainly found in India, and Suna Tigers are mainly found in Sumatra - the Sundan Tiger is more commonly known as the Sumtran Tiger and the Continental Tiger is more commonly known as the Indian Tiger. There was also other different subspecies of Tiger, however, sadly they are now extinct - for example, Javan Tigers became extinct in the 1970's.

What Are The Current Threats To Tigers?

Tigers are still facing threat of extinction, especially the Sundan Tiger, as there is a much lower population of Sundan Tigers than Continental Tigers. However, both species of Tiger face the same threats and are at risk of extinction.

Two of the main threats to these animals is: poaching by humans, and a loss of habitat caused by the destruction of places like forests by humans.

Another serious threat to Tigers is climate change.

How Can You Help Tigers?
