The WWF Calls For Scotland's Nature To Be Protected In 2020, As One in Nine Scottish Species Are

The WWF is calling for Scotland's nature to be protected in 2020, as one in nine of Scotland's species is now at risk of extinction.

The WWF is calling for urgent action to be taken to protect Scotland's nature. This action includes: restoring the natural world in Scotland, and holding the government accountable for ''nature recovery'.

If we are going to protect Scotland's nature and stop species in Scotland from becoming extinct, then urgent action needs to be taken by the Scottish government to protect the natural world and wild animals.

So far that is lacking in Scotland. Scotland is one of the most nature depleted country's on the planet. The Scottish government is responsible for the destruction of Scotland's natural world and wildlife, it is: pushing Scottish Wildcats to the brink of extinction through destroying their habitats to make way for windfarms, they have also destroyed a protected sand dune in Scotland and are proposing to destroy another protected sand dune called Coul Links, while also building on the green belt in Scotland - all of these things result in a destruction of the natural world and the animals that live within it.

To prevent climate change and the Sixth Mass Extinction, we must protect wild animals, the natural world and re-wild places - just cutting our co2 isn't enough. To prevent climate change, saving our natural world is very important - we will not have a stable climate if our natural world continues to be destroyed.

Preserving our natural world is not just important for preventing climate change, it is also important because we are losing natural spaces and wild animal species that were once so abundant across the country - species like the Scottish Wildcat is being pushed towards extinction, while 97% of our meadows has been destroyed since the 1930s, the destruction of our meadows is threatening wildflowers and insects with extinction.

We are not just in a climate crisis, we are also in a nature crisis, where our natural world is being destroyed at an alarming and destructive rate. Much of our natural world doesn't have that much time left to save it - including wild meadows and Scottish Wildcats, which are particularly vulnerable to extinction. We need a government in Scotland that is going to protect our natural world and wildlife - not destroy our natural world and wildlife.

The future of our natural world in Scotland will depend upon the decisions that the Scottish government chooses in the near future - a choice made by them to destroy more natural world will result in us becoming even more nature depleted, it will also result in us seeing species being pushed towards extinction, while more destruction of the natural world in Scotland could result in the extinction of species that have been living in Scotland for a very long time - such as the Scottish Wildcat.

It doesn't have to be like that though. The Scottish government can and should do the right thing: protect Scotland's natural world, wild animals and start a programme of rewilding. If it doesn't, then not only is the Scottish government not taking climate change serious, it is also contributing to it through destroying wildlife, while also contributing to the nature crisis and the Sixth Extinction.
