Good News, As The Mountain Gorilla Population Increases!

Mountain Gorilla

Good news involving wildlife these days can be far and wide, however, every so often, a glimmer of hope emerges for some wildlife species - today, that is the case for Mountain Gorillas, as their population has seen an increase!

An Increase In The Mountain Gorilla Population

A new report out from Uganda shows that the global Mountain Gorilla population has increased to 1,063 individual Mountain Gorillas. That is an increase of 459 Mountain Gorillas.

Thanks to wildlife conservation efforts, the number of Mountain Gorillas have increased. This has been the second consecutive year of good news for Mountain Gorillas, as last year the IUCN removed them from the critically endangered species list and put them on the endangered species list - which is further evidence that wildlife conservation efforts are working for these animals.

What Are The Threats To Mountain Gorillas?

Although these two things - an increase in their population and being removed from the critically endangered species list - is very encouraging for the Mountain Gorilla, these animals are still vulnerable to extinction. They are vulnerable to extinction because of the threats that they face.

Mountain Gorillas face many threats. These include: climate change and the destruction of their habitat - Mountain Gorillas live in forests in Africa, the destruction of these forests have contributed to the decline of these animals in the past.

A Positive Future For Mountain Gorillas

But, things are looking up for Mountain Gorillas!

Their numbers are increasing and conservation efforts are helping to save these beautiful animals for the future - the only way is up for Mountain Gorillas!
