It’s Autumn! And it is a season of beauty, with lots of different beautiful colours in nature, from orange, yellow, red and brown.

It’s a time when leafs fall like snow, sometimes as if they are gliding through the sky. It’s a time when pumpkins are lit up and bon fires are lit.

The Autumn, is also a season of change for the natural world.

The trees are changing in the natural world during the Autumn, and animals are changing during the Autumn.

There are all sorts of animals which are changing in the Autumn. Most notably: hedgehogs, squirrels, frogs, toads, mice and deer. Hedgehogs, mice, toads and frogs are animals which hibernate during the Winter and will prepare and go into hibernation during the Autumn. Squirrels store food during the Autumn. And deers rut throughout the Autumn. It’s a busy season for animals!

How You Can Help Animals This Autumn

There are many ways that you can help animals this Autumn, and make it easier for animals to make it through the Winter. When you help animals in the Autumn, you will be helping them to get through the Winter too. Here are some top tips to help animals this Autumn:

  1. Provide Animals With Food

Providing animals with food will help them through the Autumn and even Winter months. Food becomes scarcer for wild animals throughout the Autumn and Winter months, therefore, having bird feeders and a source of food for animals like squirrels and hedgehogs can help them.

There are specially made for all types of wild animals. There is specially made food for birds, squirrels and hedgehogs. There are foods that you shouldn’t give hedgehogs, such as bread and milk - but there are specially made hedgehog food that you can buy.

You can also buy products which are created for squirrels, such as nut and seed bags. By providing these for squirrels in the garden, you can help them store for the Autumn and Winter.

There is also an abundance of wild bird foods that you can buy, from coconuts, to fat balls and seeds - there’s a wind variety of bird food that you can give our feathered friends.

2) Provide Animals With Water

Another way that you can help animals through the Autumn, is by providing them with a source of water. There are several ways that you can supply wild animals with water in the garden, such as putting out a shallow bowl of water, providing birds with a bird bath, or even having a pond.

With water in your garden, make sure there is a way for wild animals to get out in case they fall into places like a pond.

3) Create Shelter For Wild Animals

Many wild animals will be looking for new places to nest during the Autumn and Winter, and therefore, our gardens can act like min-habitats for them. There are many different ways that you can create shelter for wild animals.

One of those ways is to install bird boxes and bat boxes which can help both throughout the Winter. Another way is to have a hedgehog home in your garden, you can buy these made for hedgehogs, and they will help your local hedgehog have a safe and secure place to hibernate during the Winter.

Another way that you can create shelter for wild animals in your garden, is by creating a pile for them. Piles can be used with using leafs that have fallen and from twigs, this will help small animals throughout the Autumn and Winter.
