What Are Puffins?

Puffins are species of bird; they are one of the most beautiful and charismatic little birds. Famously: Puffins are a species of bird who are famous for their colourful rainbow beak, which stands out.

There are different species of Puffin.

But here in the UK, the species of Puffin which are the focus of Puffaratzzi, is the Atlantic Puffin. This is because, it is the Atlantic Puffin which visits the UK annually. The Atlantic Puffin spends the Spring and Summer months in the UK. But, the Atlantic Puffin is threatened with extinct.

Atlantic Puffins Are Threatened With Extinction

Atlantic Puffins are threatened with extinction for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons Atlantic Puffins are threatened with extinction, is due to changes in their environment. Threats to the Puffin include: threats to their environment, including depleted fish stocks, low reproduction levels and Puffins are also threatened with a disturbance in their colonies/habitats.

Due to all of these thing, the Puffin population has declined.

An Effort To Help The Atlantic Puffins

In an effort to help the Atlantic Puffin, the RSPB has came up with Puffarazzi. With Puffarazzi, the RSPB want you to send them pictures of Puffins with fish in their mouth, in order to raise awareness of Atlantic Puffins.

You can help Puffins and you can take part in Puffarazzi - here.
