Number Five - The Sumatran Elephant
The Sumatran Elephant is a subspecies of Asian Elephant.
There are two species of Elephant in the world: The Asian Elephant and the African Elephant. The Sumatran Elephant is a subspecies of the Asian one.
Sumatran Elephants are critically endangered. Today, there are only between 2,400 and 2,800 Sumatran Elephants in the wild.
Number Four - The Sumatran Orangutan
The Sumatran Orangutan is critically endangered.
The Sumatran Orangutan is one of the three species of Orangutan in the world. Today, there are only 14,613 Sumatran Orangutans left in the wild of Sumatra - making Sumatran Orangutans vulnerable to extinction.
These wild animals are threatened with deforestation and palm oil.
Number Three - The Sun Bear
The Sun Bear is vulnerable to extinction.
The exact Sun Bear population is unknown, but the Sun Bear population have fallen by 30% over the last 30 years. And, by being classed as a 'vulnerable' species, it means that these beautiful animals are on the road to becoming endangered and possibly extinct within our lifetime.
It is thought that the Sun Bear could become extinct within 30 years.
Number Two - The Sumatran Tiger
The Sumatran Tiger is critically endangered.
The Sumatran Tiger is one of the most endangered animals in the Sumatran rainforest. They are so rare, that there are now less than 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the world. Saving Sumatran Tigers has become a priority for wildlife conservationists on the island of Sumatra.
The decline of the Sumatran Tiger is symbolic of a disappearing forest.
Number One - The Sumatran Rhino
The Sumatran Rhino is critically endangered.
Out of all of the animals on our list, the Sumatran Rhino is the most endangered animal within the Sumatran rainforest. The Sumatran Rhino is so rare, that there are only 80 individual Sumatran Rhinos left in the wild today, which makes these beautiful animals very close to extinction.
