Germany Goes Fur Free After Ditching Its Fur Farms! đŸș🎉

Fur Free

It’s great news for animals and cruelty-free living campaigners; as Germany goes fur free after ditching its fur farms!

Germany first announced to the world that it was going fur free, and was banning its fur farms. Germany decided that it was banning its fur farms back in 2017, when Germany’s government voted to end fur farms and animals being used for fur.

It’s great news for animals: who now won’t be killed for humans to use their fur in the name of fashion; in Germany.

At the time of announcing the ban, Germany had mink farms.

Minks are cute animals which look like stoats.

Sadly, minks in Germany were killed for their fur. But, not anymore in Germany: as the last fur farmer in Germany has closed his fur farm just a few days ago.

The closing of Germany’s last fur farms comes earlier than expected. There was to be a five year transition period, from 2017 to 2022, to close their fur farms.

However, Germany’s last fur farms have - thankfully - closed three years before they were expected to - which is great news for animals!

Other Countries That Have Banned Fur Farming

Germany is not the first country to ban fur farming though. And hopefully, and probably, it won’t be the last country to ban fur farming.

Many countries now have banned fur farming.

Most of the countries which have banned fur farming, are from Europe.

The United Kingdom became the first country to ban fur farming in 2000; with the exception of Scotland and Northern Ireland - which banned fur farming in 2002.

Two years later, Austria followed and banned fur farming in 2004.

Slovenia banned fur farming in 2013.

Republic of Macedonia in 2014.

Spain, banned new mink farms, in 2015.

Czech Republic in 2017.

Norway in 2018.

Luxembourg 2018.

Serbia 2019.

Other European countries have laws in place to phase out fur farming, while other countries in Europe are now proposing to ban fur farming.

Outside of Europe, bans have also took place.

New Zealand banned mink imports in 2013.

Japan banned (phased out) fur farming from 2016.

India banned fur imports in 2017.

There are two ways that countries can ban fur: (1) by banning fur farming, and (2) by banning fur imports of real fur from other countries. Both of these things help reduce and end animals being used for their fur.

You can help too: by refusing to buy products which have real fur in them.

Hopefully more countries will follow in Germany’s footsteps.

Well done Germany for banning fur farms! đŸș🎉
