Happy World Pangolin Day!
Pangolins are one of the worlds cutest animals, but they are also a little known animal. The Pangolin is little known for a few reasons - they don't get that much media attention, they are shy and elusive, and, there isn't much known about Pangolins because of their nocturnal nature. Because these animals are, shy, elusive and nocturnal, it makes it hard for wildlife conservationists to study them, and learn all about Pangolins, their behaviour and population.
Wildlife conservationists find it hard to understand the wild Pangolin population, due to the Pangolins personality traits.
There is, however, some understanding about the Pangolin population, though exact numbers of the Pangolin population are hard to come by. We do know the status of the different Pangolin species though: there are eight different Pangolin species. Four of the Pangolin species are classed as vulnerable; which means they are vulnerable to extinction. There are two Pangolin species which are endangered species, and two which are critically endangered.
One of the main risk to these animals existence is because they are the victim of wildlife trafficking and poaching.
You can read more about that in - Meet The Worlds Most Persecuted Wild Animals: Pangolins.
