Coffee

60% of coffee species are now at risk of extinction, a new report has said. Six out of ten coffee species are now endangered - which means that most of our coffee species face extinction.

Why Are They At Risk Of Extinction?

They are at risk of extinction for a number of reasons. One of the reasons that they are at risk of extinction; is due to habitat loss. The destruction of the worlds rainforests is one of the reasons that coffee species are not at risk of extinction, and are endangered.

Another reason coffee is at risk of becoming extinct is due to climate change. A warmer planet caused by climate change will cause unsuitable conditions for coffee to grow in. Climate change will also see in a reduction in coffees natural habitat, which means that there will be less land for coffee to grow in as a result of climate change.

The study into coffee species was published by the IUCN, who monitor both plant species, and animal species. By researching animals and plants, wildlife conservationists can understand which species are declining and which species are at risk of extinction.

The IUCN found that there were several coffee species decreasing. This included one of the most common type of coffee - Arabica.
