The Cuddly Red Panda

The cuddly Red Panda is one of the worlds cutest animals.

These cute animals look more like a living teddy bear, than an animal. But, that makes these cute animals one of the most adorable little animals out there. The Red Panda is distinguishable due to their teddy bear like nature, and their cute appearance. Red Pandas have red, orange, black and white fur. They also have an adorable face and a long bushy tail. Their tail is orange and white stripes.

What Size Are Red Pandas?

Red Pandas are much smaller than Giant Pandas.

A fully grown Red Panda will grow up to two feet. To put that into perspective: the Red Panda is just a bit bigger than a pet cat.

What Do Red Pandas Eat?

Red Pandas, like their cousin the Giant Panda, eat bamboo.

The eat bamboo which comes from their forest home.

Where Do They Live?

The Red Panda lives in two countries in the world. They are found in the forests of China, and they are also found in Nepal.

There could also be a small population in Bhutan.

What Is Their Status?

These animals are currently endangered.

How Many Of Them Are There?

According to the WWF, there are less than 10,000 Red Pandas remaining in the wild today.

What Threats Do Red Pandas Face?

Red Pandas are faced with several threats today. One of the main threats to the Red Pandas existence, is that their forests homes are being destroyed. This means that there is less place for the Pandas to exist, it also means that there is less nesting trees for them to live in, and also means that there is less food for these animals to find - this is because the forest provides the food (bamboo), which is essential for these animals surviving.

Their forests being destroyed is not the only threat that these animals face, another threat they face is being killed by poachers. Poachers don't directly target Red Pandas. Instead, Red Pandas are caught up in traps set up by poachers, which are meant for other animals.

The Future For The Red Panda

Although there are animals which are much closer to extinction than the Red Panda, Red Pandas are still endangered, and therefore: they are vunerable to extinction. To prevent these animals going extinct, you can help them by adopting a Red Panda with the WWF.
