Why Should You Sign Up?

By signing up, you get to help wild animals and nature!

You get to help many different types of wild animals that can be found throughout the UK. You will get to help birds by counting how many birds you see; this will help the RSPB understand how healthy (or unhealthy) the bird population is of each bird species. But, helping birds is not the only animals that you will be helping. There are other wild animals that you will be helping with the birdwatch, such as: foxes, badgers, stoats, deers, squirrels and more. Therefore, this is an essential for all of our wild animals, and not just birds.

This study helps us to understand better the population of each species, which in turn can tell us whether or not that species is thriving, or declining. It can tell us which animals are declining. Animal populations also tells us how healthy the natural world is; how healthy the ecosystems are, and nearby habitats are.

We can understand how healthy, or unhealthy, the natural world is, by understanding the wild animal populations. Which is why it is a good idea for you to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch: because you get to help both animals and nature.
