London Fashion Week has ditched real fur this year. The fashion week takes place this weekend.

It's the first time that London Fashion Week has ditched real fur. It follows other fashion outlets which have recently turned their back on furs, such as Gucci and Burberry. Both Burberry and Gucci have banned the use of real fur recently. There is a trend where fashion labels and shows are no longer seeing real fur as attractive and marketable.

It seems that the fashion industry is finally moving with the times; acknowledging that real fur is no longer desired nor wanted by the majority of people. In fact, a poll out observing public attitudes towards buying and wearing real fur, found that the vast majority of people would not buy real fur. The poll showed that a whopping 90% of people would not buy real fur!

Why Do People Not Want Real Fur?

People don't want to wear real fur because of the cruelty that is inflicted towards animals within the fur industry. The fur industry is known for its horrific treatment of animals, with animals being put in small metal cages which aren't comfortable and animals being cruelly tortured and killed for their fur. Some of the most common ways that animals are killed for their fur, include being electrocuted while alive or being bludgeoned to death while still alive. Animals in the fur industry are also skin alive for their fur.

Fur In The UK

Fur farms were banned at the start of the 21st century in the UK. However, selling fur is still legal. That might change though. Campaigners, which include politicians and animal rights campaigners, are campaigning to parliament to make selling fur in the UK illegal. This would be a major step in helping animals and stamping out cruelty that continues in the fur industry.
