Top Five Amazing Facts About The Red Fox!


The Red Fox is one of the most adorable animals, and one of the most loved species of the British countryside. They are very distinct animals. Their red fur and red bushy tail makes them instantly recognizable. Because of their red fur, the Red Fox is never mistaken. That's because there is no other species of wild animal like them in the UK. The Red Squirrel is one of the only animals which comes close, but that is only because the Red Squirrel are animals who also has distinctive red fur, and, a bushy tail!

But, the Red Squirrels are animals which are much smaller than the red fox. Which means that the red fox are animals which are instantly recognizable! We are going to look at the top five amazing facts of the Red Fox.

5. Foxes Have Been Worshiped In History It is not only cats which have been worshiped by ancient civilizations, foxes are animals which have been worshiped too. There are at least two ancient civilizations which are known to have worshiped the fox. One of them is the Ancient Mesopotamian (modern day Iraq). The Ancient Mesopotamian's seen the fox as a sacred animal. The fox was a messenger to one of their gods. The second ancient civilization which worshiped foxes the Moche people of Peru (which is modern day Peru :P ). Anyway. The Moche seems to have held the fox in the highest regard. Most of their paintings included foxes in them, even though they did have other animals which they worshiped too.

4. Their Eating Habits Foxes eat a wide variety of things. They are not exclusively meat eaters. They are often noted for being ''scavengers'', which is a lot to do with why foxes can thrive in cities, as well as in the countryside. However, foxes more diverse eaters than they appear to be. Meaning, they can be particularly choosy eaters. Foxes will eat anything from; rats to birds, to worms and spiders, to chocolate and scraps of meat left by humans, and berries and eggs. These have all noted to be eaten by foxes.

3. Names and life expectancy For number three, we are going to talk about two fox facts, because they are quite small. And that is, the names of the fox and their life expectancy. The red fox is the common name of the fox, or, just the fox, as most people call them. However, they go by other names too. The female fox is called a vixen. The male fox is called a dog. And young foxes are called cubs. The red fox surprisingly they don't live that long in the wild. Their life expectancy is only one to two years. However, they have been recorded living longer than that. But most foxes tend not to live beyond five years, especially two. They live short lives while living in the wild.

2. Relatives The red fox has a lot of relatives. Their line reaches all over the world, from Europe with the Arctic fox, to Europe with the red fox. The red fox is not only related to other foxes, they are related to all other members of the dog family. Including the dog and the Wolf. 1. ...but they are more like a cat The dog is a little bit bigger than a cat, but not by much. Their long bushy tail gives them the appearance that they are much bigger than they are. Foxes are also more like cats, than dogs, in their nature and personality. Dogs tend to be forward, and sociable. Whereas cats are more aloof, and shy. The fox is the same, aloof and shy. They will avoid humans at any cost. And are far from aggressive. A fox will almost always run away from people, rather than go to them.
