Meet the talking Orca who has learned how to speak English. It’s unusual to hear animals speak human words. We are familiar with parrots speaking human words, but that has changed. Now there is an Orca who speaks human words.

Wilkie the talking Orca

The Orca that has picked up and learned to use human words is called Wilkie. The Orca repeated words first spoken by the human, in much the same way that an infant would. The words said by the Orca include saying ‘hello’ and ‘bye-bye’, with the Orca also counting ‘one, two, three.’

Teaching an Orca to Speak

The findings raise some interesting questions, such as, ‘Can we teach an Orca to learn human languages?’. Or more generally, ‘Can we teach all animals to learn human languages?’

It might sound like something out of a Disney film, but, it’s not as farfetched as it seems. There are countless species of animals who have not only been found to speak human words, but also have been found to learn new vocal sounds. Take this article as an example:

With this videos of pets as another example

Additionally, scientists think that animals will be able to speak to humans by 2050 at most, and ten years at least. Speak human that is.

Animals already speak. Animals are already vocal. For example, birds will tweet or sing to communicate something, that in itself is a language. An animals body language, is another major expression of communication.

In humans, most of our language comes in the form of body language, as is the case with animals. Animals already communicate, humans often don’t listen or observe this.
