Today is World Turtle Day: Happy World Turtle Day!! šŸ’ššŸ¢

This year is the 22nd year since World Turtle Day was founded; World Turtle Day was founded in 2000 by the American Tortoise Rescue.

World Turtle Day is celebrated on the 23rd of May every year.

The American Tortoise Rescue created World Turtle Day to help celebrate turtles, protect them and protect their habitats which are being lost.

World Turtle Day is a great day to raise awareness about turtles and their habitats which are disappearing. Sadly, in 2020, it was reported that more than half of all tortoise and turtle species are now at risk of extinction.

The Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle is the world's rarest turtle species; there are only 4 remaining Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtles remaining. This means that the Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle is not only critically endangered but also means that they are one of the world's rarest animals today and very close to extinction.

World Turtle Day, is a great day to raise awareness about the Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle, and other turtles facing extinction today.

Turtle

The Yangtze Softshell Turtle isn't the only species of turtle which is at risk of extinction - there are many more, such as sea turtles.

The WWF says that nearly all sea turtles are endangered today and that three out of seven sea turtles are critically endangered.

There are several threats that sea turtles face in the modern world, these threats are - the threat from poaching, habitat destruction and climate change.

Protecting turtles in the wild and their habitats is essential if they are going to survive in the future. Resolving climate change is also essential if turtles are going to survive in the future. If we protect turtles and take care of our environment and planet, then we can help animals like turtles and give them a positive future.

Today is a good day to help raise awareness about turtles and the challenges and threats that they face in the modern world; it is also a good day to appreciate turtles and be thankful that we get to share a planet with these beautiful animals.
