Hedgehog Awareness Week 2022 is between the 1st of May and the 7th of May this year, it is an event which is organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society to help hedgehogs.
The aim of Hedgehog Awareness Week is to use this week to raise awareness about hedgehogs, and the challenges and threats that they face in the modern world.
Sadly, hedgehogs are declining in the UK, and are now vulnerable to extinction in the UK. The decline in hedgehogs has been sharpest in rural areas, as since 2000, the hedgehog population has declined by a massive 50% in rural areas!
Hedgehogs have also been declining in urban areas. The hedgehog population has declined by 30% in the UK since the start of the millennium.
This shows the shocking decline of the hedgehog population in the UK.
How Can We Help Hedgehogs?
There are many ways that you can help to stop the decline in hedgehogs in the UK. We can all help hedgehogs in our own gardens.
You can help hedgehogs in your own garden by making your garden wildlife-friendly. To make your garden wildlife-friendly you can do several things when it comes to helping hedgehogs. Here are some things you can do:
. Have a hedgehog home in your garden
. Have wildflowers in your garden
. Plant hedges in your garden
. Put out hedgehog food
. Put out a small bowl of water
. Create a hedgehog highway in your garden
These are some great ways to help hedgehogs in your garden, and, they are also great ways to make your garden wildlife-friendly.
Hedgehog Awareness Week is a good time to start creating a wildlife-friendly garden, it is also a good time to help raise awareness about hedgehogs.
