Coronavirus: Update On This Years Earth Hour



This years earth hour is set to take place on the 28th of March 2020. Due to recent events surrounding the coronavirus, this years earth hour is set to be different, as for the first time, the WWF is asking people to take part in earth hour digitally, rather than in gatherings.


Taking part in earth hour digitally will already have to be the case in several countries, as several countries, such as - the UK, Italy and New Zealand, are in lockdown and freedom of movement is either limited or prohibited. In other countries where there is not a lockdown, the WWF is asking people to take part in this years earth hour at home and digitally.




What Is Earth Hour and When Does It Happen?


Earth Hour is an annual event that takes part every March now as a way to to help raise awareness about the environment and wildlife. It started in Sydney Australia on the 31st of March 2007 as 7:30 pm. Since it began in Australian in 2007, Earth Hour has expanded globally, where now most countries across the world observe Earth Hour: a total of 187 countries.


Today, Earth Hour starts at 8:30 pm and lasts until 9:30 pm in every countries local time. This year, that will be on the 28th of March 2020. During the hour between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm people are asked to turn off their lights to raise awareness about the environment and wildlife.
